Volkswagen's first all-electric sedan, the ID. 'Aero (ID. AERO)' concept car was unveiled.

‘ID. Aero' maximizes aerodynamic performance while providing a stylish body design and ample interior space. ‘ID.Aero’ plans to start production in Europe and China from the second half of 2023.

The ‘ID. Aero' was designed based on aerodynamic principles. Thanks to the design with the coupe-style roof extending gracefully to the rear, it achieves an outstanding drag coefficient of 0.23 cd. In addition, Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB), a universal electric vehicle platform, is applied to provide short overhangs, long wheelbases, and spacious interior space.

It is equipped with a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery and has achieved a range of up to 620 km based on WLTP due to the interaction of an efficient drive system and excellent aerodynamic properties.



‘ID. Aero' is the ID. This is a premium mid-size sedan that reflects the design language of the family. The aerodynamically designed front end and roof help to optimize airflow over the vehicle, which is once again optimized through the slightly inwardly curved rear end and spoiler edge.

The 22-inch two-tone wheels that fill the wheelhouse are designed in a turbine style. The classic door handles have been replaced with illuminated touches to further reduce drag. A bold tornado line and a downward sloping roof line complete the design at the top of the silhouette. ‘ID. Aero's strong shoulder line was located above the tornado line. This outline is ‘ID. It makes ‘Aero’ more dynamic and stand out.



‘ID. The 'Aero' concept car is painted in Polar Light Blue Metalic, a soft metallic color that gives off a golden shimmer depending on lighting. The roof is painted in high-gloss black to contrast with the body.

The front end is the ID. An ID that is common to the family. It is characterized by honeycomb. ‘ID. Aero's design is innovative IQ. Defined by light LED matrix headlights and slim light strips. In particular, the light strip that crosses the front part horizontally is characterized by wrapping the wings and side panels above the headlights. These light strips lead to the side lighting fixtures (such as auto-flush door handles), and then visually all the way to the rear. The distinctive rear section features a striking dark light light strip and a honeycomb LED tail light cluster that creates a distinctive look.



‘ID. Aero' is a model that shows the flexibility of the design method of Volkswagen's general-purpose electric vehicle platform, MEB. The MEB platform can be used across a wide range of segments, from compact crossovers to SUVs, minibuses and sedan models. In addition, the MEB platform takes full advantage of the functionality of E-Mobility to enable long mileage, maximum digital connectivity and over-the-air update (OTA) capabilities.

‘ID. Aero's European mass-production model is scheduled to be produced on an assembly line at the Emden plant in 2023. This will make the Emden plant one of the first Volkswagen plants to mass-produce electric vehicles in Lower Saxony, making a decisive contribution to electrifying the model range and reducing the CO2 emissions of all new cars.
