SKT formed a ‘K-UAM Dream Team Consortium’ with Korea Airports Corporation, Hanwha Systems, Korea Meteorological Institute, and Korea Land and Infrastructure Information Corporation to participate in the first phase of the ‘K-UAM Grand Challenge’, a UAM demonstration project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
In addition, based on super-cooperation with Joby Aviation, it aims to present a business model that leads global UAM commercialization by securing unrivaled empirical data from the initial stage of UAM demonstration in Korea.
Joby Aviation, along with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is the strongest player in the UAM aircraft field in name and reality, conducting the world's most advanced UAM aircraft certification. Based on its world-leading technology, it plans to participate in domestic demonstration projects with SKT and play a key role in various fields, from aircraft supply to cooperation in flight know-how.

SKT's key executives, including President Yoo Young-sang, went all out to CES 2023 and met with key executives from Joby Aviation, including CEO JoBen Bevirt and Vice President Eric Allison. The two companies reviewed ways to strengthen business cooperation for the successful implementation of the UAM demonstration project (K-UAM Grand Challenge Phase 1) hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this year and the subsequent commercialization of Korean UAM.
In order to increase the industrial value of Joby Aviation UAM service and expand the ecosystem, SKT has implemented the formal certification procedure required when introducing Jobi Aviation's aircraft into Korea, various pilot projects that will generate initial UAM demand, and (vertiport) Ideas for securing infrastructure early were discussed.
Joby Aviation's UAM aircraft is equipped with unrivaled technological capabilities that can fly the longest distance (249km/1h 17m) and the fastest (330km/h) among electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) unveiled worldwide.
