SK Telecom and Joby Aviation lead the commercialization of Korean UAM

SK Telecom (CEO Young-sang Yoo, CEO) and Joby Aviation (CEO Joben Vibert), a world-class UAM leader, visited CES 2023 and UAM production facilities to check the preparations for K-UAM demonstration and discuss plans for initial commercialization. It was announced on the 12th.

SKT formed a ‘K-UAM Dream Team Consortium’ with Korea Airports Corporation, Hanwha Systems, Korea Meteorological Institute, and Korea Land and Infrastructure Information Corporation to participate in the first phase of the ‘K-UAM Grand Challenge’, a UAM demonstration project by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Joby Aviation, along with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is the strongest player in the UAM aircraft field in name and reality, conducting the world's most advanced UAM aircraft certification. Based on its world-leading technology, it plans to participate in domestic demonstration projects with SKT and play a key role in various fields, from aircraft supply to cooperation in flight know-how.

SKT's key executives, including President Yoo Young-sang, went all out to CES 2023 and met with key executives from Joby Aviation, including CEO JoBen Bevirt and Vice President Eric Allison. The two companies reviewed ways to strengthen business cooperation for the successful implementation of the UAM demonstration project (K-UAM Grand Challenge Phase 1) hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this year and the subsequent commercialization of Korean UAM.
