Hyundai unveils two concept cars with N-brand electrification vision

Hyundai Motor's high-performance sub-brand, N-Brand, has been pursuing 'fun of driving' from the customer's point of view since its launch in 2015.
In order to offset customers' concerns about the 'fun of driving' in the era of electrification, it unveiled an electrification vision to set a new standard in the high-performance electric vehicle market.
The N brand announced that it will reflect the core elements that can maximize the ‘fun of driving’ that have been passed down since the era of the internal combustion engine into the era of electric vehicles. In addition to the characteristics of electric vehicles with improved 'sense of speed' or 'zero-back', he mentioned that he plans to focus on research and development so that he can enjoy dynamic fun with 'cornering bad boy'.
In addition, it plans to raise the electric vehicle, which requires heavy weight and thermal management, to a high-performance standard so that it can be enjoyed for a long time on the 'race track'. In addition, he said that he is conducting various researches in high-performance emotional areas such as sound and vibration by utilizing the potential of electric vehicle software.
In 2023, the launch of the first electric high-performance car 'IONIQ 5 N' was announced, heralding the time when it would become a reality.
At the same time, it unveiled two Rolling Lab (Moving Lab) vehicles containing specific electrification technologies of the N brand. Rolling Lab is a vehicle that researches, develops and verifies high-performance technologies inspired by motor sports before being reflected in mass production models. Following the existing RM (Racing Midship) series, Hyundai N brand introduced a new rolling lab series for the development of next-generation electrified vehicles.
Rolling Lab 'RN22e' is the N brand's first E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform)-based high-performance vehicle, testing and validating prior technologies.
Another rolling lab 'N Vision 74' materializes the hydrogen high-performance concept unveiled at the launch of the N brand, and shows the challenge of the N brand as a hydrogen hybrid high-performance vehicle that inherits the spirit of the Pony Coupe concept.

The N brand has applied e-LSD (Electronic Differential Limiter) to the N mass-produced models that have already been released to realize ‘the fun of cornering’. In addition, the RN22e overcomes the limitations of the weight of a heavier vehicle in the era of electrification, and maximizes the experience of faster cornering while researching and developing prior technologies for torque vectoring through twin clutches.
In addition, we are conducting research and development to maintain light weight and rigidity through the installation of 3D printed aluminum parts.
Equipped with a 160kW front-wheel motor and a 270kW rear-wheel motor, the RN22e is AWD, and the driver can set the desired driving force according to the mood and even a strong drift.
The RN22e focuses on cooling and braking to improve durability, which is an important part of ‘race track driving’ among the N brand electrification directions. Through continuous R&D, it is possible to find track optimization settings so that drivers can enjoy the fun of track driving for a long time without overloading the vehicle.
In terms of braking, a 4-piston monobloc caliper and a hybrid disc with a caliber of 400 mm were applied to the RN22e to withstand heavy weight. In addition, research is being conducted to provide a new driving experience unique to electric vehicles by realizing dynamic movement through reinforcement of regenerative braking.
The RN22e delivers more dramatic sound through its internal and external speakers with its N Sound+ feature. In addition, N e-shift, which strengthens the emotional domain by providing vibration and shifting feeling in conjunction with N Sound Plus, is intended to provide driving fun even in electric vehicles.

When Hyundai Motor launched the N brand in 2015, it presented the sustainable future direction of the N brand by unveiling the 'Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo', a high-performance hydrogen concept. After 7 years of development, ‘N Vision 74’, unveiled through the development process, shows the spirit of the N brand to make dreams come true.
N Vision 74 was developed as a ‘hybrid’ system that combines a battery motor and a hydrogen fuel cell, and development started from a new layout concept for this. By researching and developing battery or hydrogen fuel usage conditions according to the driving environment, the N Vision 74 was able to improve its cooling performance.
In addition, accurate and fast torque vectoring was realized through R&D on the conditions for controlling the twin motors on the rear wheels. N Vision 74 has developed a 3-channel cooling system while finding a balance between high performance and cooling performance. Such efforts of Hyundai Motor N show the future potential of sustainable high-performance vehicles and motorsports through the advantages of hydrogen electric vehicles' long mileage and fast charging.
Visually, the N Vision 74 stands out for its design inspired by the ‘Pony Coupe’, which was Hyundai Motor’s concept car in 1974. At that time, Hyundai Motor Company developed a prototype vehicle for mass production in order to present the ‘Pony Coupe’ as the first mass-produced sports car, but there is a sad story that it did not reach mass production in the end due to social reasons caused by the economic crisis at the time.
However, the bold spirit contained in the ‘Pony Coupe’ is still established in the mindset of the entire company, and the N Vision 74 is a vehicle that inherits and maximizes this spirit and intensively reflects it.
